Rachna's Note
December 2004
Dear Reader,
Wow- the year is coming to an end, and my plate still
feels really full. This month's note will be short, as I'm
certain you're just as busy as I am.
This issue continues where last month's issue left
off- we're talking about ways to expand your range
so you can get more joy, happiness, and living
out of your life.
I hope you enjoy it, and my best wishes for a
joyful & happy holiday season.
See you next month!
Warmly,
Rachna

Expanding Your Range Part II

Last month, we started talking about the idea of
expanding your range in order to get "big enough" to
integrate your biggest dreams into your lives. I asked
you to take a few minutes and jot down your goals for
the first quarter of 2005, in at least four areas of
your life (such as health, business/career,
relationships, free time, social life, spirituality).
If you haven't done this, stop here and do this first,
please - you'll get much more out of this article if
you do.
So now, you have at least four goals for the first
quarter of 2005. When you look at them do you feel
inspired and excited? These goals should jazz you up
and maybe even feel a little scary. (This is how you
can know the goals are big enough).
Next, jot down all the reasons you haven't attained
these goals yet. Aim to list reasons that are personal
to you (I haven't had support, I don't think I'm smart
enough, I want too much). Then, taking the list of
personal reasons, start jotting down next to them,
what actions you'd take if you wanted to expand your
range (i.e. get "bigger" in this area). So let's take
an example, such as health:
Goal: To focus on healthy eating and exercise.
Why I haven't yet achieved this yet:
Too busy, don't know what to do, exercise is boring,
hate eating diet food.
What I could do if I really wanted to meet this goal:
-Leave work early and go straight to the gym.
-Get a nutritional/exercise consultation.
-Find a new sport or activity.
-Take some cooking lessons to eat well without eating
diet food.
Any of these actions will help you begin to expand
your life so you can make room for this goal.
Let's take another example:
Goal: To become more valuable to my company.
Why I haven't achieved this yet:
My job is boring, I don't like my boss, don't know
what to do, can't afford to go back to school.
What I could do if I really wanted to meet this goal:
-Try to enrich or liven up my job.
-Find traits to appreciate in my boss or get an
outside mentor.
-Talk to others about how they did it.
-Look into adult learning programs or offers from my
company's human resources department.
Expanding your range is all about finding small,
doable actions which bring you closer to your desired
goals. With each action you take, you most likely will
feel interested and enthusiastic, and the next step
will become easier, and so on.
So if you're ready to make the most of 2005, mark out
a strategy to reach your goals, and then start taking
our action. In putting forth effort to expand your
range, you'll be on your way to living a happier and
more fulfilling life.
Happy Holidays and See you in 2005!
