Flow: 5 tips in 5 minutes

"Flow" is the term for a state of optimal experience.
It is defined by being completely absorbed in a
task, where you work steadily, lose track of time,
and feel refreshed in doing so. Flow is a key
component of effortless productivity.
When was the last time you experienced flow?
Here are 5 tips to find it:
1) Leave open space in your day.
Flow often shows up when we create room for it.
If you're working on a proposal or creative project,
definitely create blocks of time in 2-4 hour
stretches, devoted to your project. You can
invite flow by making room for it.
2) Follow your resonance.
Resonance refers to an internal "knowing" or
intuition that you want to pursue a certain
task. Give yourself permission to follow these
"strange" inklings- very often, they lead you
to flow.
3) Do more of what you love.
Sounds simple, perhaps, but the more time you
spend in tasks you enjoy, the easier it is to
slip into flow. Sometimes, doing more of what
you love may require asking for help or
delegating.
4) Be creative wherever possible.
Creativity sometimes feels like a big daunting
task. It's really just about moving ideas
around and combining them in a different way.
You can spark creativity any time you change
your habits or routine. Even something as
simple as driving home a different way can
shift your perspective so you find flow.
5) Live in the now.
If we are fully living in this moment, we
easily move away from regrets about our
past or our fears about our future. This
creates a sense of suspension which is a
wonderful way to welcome flow. Each time
you find yourself moving from the past
to the future in your thinking, actively
re-orient yourself to this moment - the
sound of the rain, or the rustle of the
leaves, or the feel of the wind on your
skin.
Try these tips and you, too, will
experience the joy of flow.
So my five minutes are up- see you next month!
