Rachna's Note

June 2006

Dear Reader,

Happy June! The month has been a fast paced one so far, with the
biggest news (so far!) is that we bought on a house! Yeahhh!!
We'll be moving at the end of the month, which is super exciting
(though probably a lot of work too!) I can't wait!

Overcome Rejection: The SMART Way is all done!! It's going to the
printer this week and should be available by next issue. Please
stay tuned for a special subscriber's only discount in July
newsletter. It turned out incredibly beautiful. I'm totally
thrilled. Oh, and the content is good too! (Looks aren't
everything, right??)

I was recently interviewed for Associated Press on the topic of
taking a vacation- so don't be surprised if my name pops up in
one of your local papers. Please do let me know if it does.

Also, I recently wrote my first article for a new South Asian
publication: IndiMagazine, which will debut in August in Western
Canada. I also returned to my regular health and wellness column
for ABCDlady, after taking a couple monts off during wedding
planning. If you are South Asian and/or interested in South Asian
issues, be sure to check these publications out- you're sure to
find useful information.

Overall, life is great on this end, and just keeps getting
better. I hope the same for you.

This month's issue focuses on the idea of getting out of your own
way. If you have a goal that you really, really want, but don't
seem to be getting, it's time to assess if you're standing in
your own way. I hope you enjoy this issue, and see you next
month!

:)

Are you standing in your own way?

Is there a goal you've been pursuing for awhile now? One that
you've really, really wanted but which doesn't seem to be coming
into focus? Are there times where you've felt frustrated or
overwhelmed by really, really wanting something you don't seem to
be getting?

Me too.

For me, it's been the goal of buying a house. I've wanted to buy
my own house for years...and, for various reasons, this just
hasn't worked out as planned. At first, it was put on hold
because I started my own business. Next, it was put on hold due
to an escalating real estate market- I had no time to even place
offers before houses were sold!  Then, most recently, it was put
on hold due to wedding planning. So, all told, my house buying
dreams have been about six years in the manifestation.

The good news is that we found a house and will be closing on it
at the end of June. The ironic news is that it all didn't happen
exactly as I thought. I won't say the outcome isn't good- it is-
but I will say that I've learned, a lot, about how we can
sometimes get in our own way. We can become very tied to a goal
(which is fine) but we also become very tied to HOW THE GOAL
happens (which is not so fine).

I've said before that we can ask for what we want; but we can't
control how we get what we want. In my case, everything came
together more easily and simply than I had thought. So simply, in
fact, that I didn't even trust it!

Has this ever happened to you? You've become so caught up in the
HOW? So caught up in the HOW in fact, that everything becomes
more difficult than necessary? If so, remember this: you want
your goals because they want you too. But the way they manifest
might be different than you thought.

Different is not necessarily bad. In fact, it could be even
better.

If you have a goal that seems elusive, it's time to reassess. Are
you holding onto a goal you no longer want? (If so, drop it.) Are
you holding onto a goal you really, really want? (Good!). Are
there ways your goal could come to you easier, faster, and more
quickly? (Probably).

So what will it take to get out of your own way?
