Rachna's Note
November 2005
Dear Reader,
Wow! I just have to tell you about all these
cool things that have been showing up this
month. First- it's been really fun being
engaged. I like it! and really, really
appreciate those of you who took the time
to write with your congratulations & good
wishes. Thanks!
I'm gearing up to speak at the University
of Maryland in the next few weeks- they've
invited me to present a workshop on Ph.D.
Completion Strategies, so I'm looking forward
to that.
I recently started another newsletter, this
one for graduate students- it's called PhD365,
and focuses on helping readers get their Ph.D.'s
in 365 days. If you, or anyone you know, could
benefit from this resource, check it out at
http://www.CompleteYourDissertation.com
It's been a great month, publicity-wise. In
the next few months, you'll see me quoted
in Parents Magazine, Good Housekeeping,
the January issue of Marie Claire, and the
January issue of Baltimore Magazine. It's
been really fun to share my ideas and
connect with more people through these
sources.
Anyway, this personal note has gotten quite
long, and it's probably time to turn to
the point of the newsletter- this month's
article. This month, we focus on ways you
can increase your personal power. As you'll
see from the article, personal power is
a necessary first step to crafting the
life you want.
I also recommend a resource that I've
benefited from which you might enjoy as well.
Finally, for those celebrating Thanksgiving
this week, I wish you safe & joyful time
with your loved ones. My Dad is making
dinner for all of us (he's a really good cook)
so I can't wait to eat. :)
See you next month!
Rachna

Increasing Your Personal Power

This month, I’ve been hearing a lot about power.
Become more powerful. Shape your body powerful.
The 48 Laws of Power. Power, power everywhere.
But how do you grow your own? One of my clients
came to coaching complaining about a lack of
personal power. Our resulting coaching session
was pretty enlightening. With her permission,
I’m sharing a few of the highlights here- I
think you’ll find them interesting and useful
in your own life.
It appears that personal power comes directly
from a sense of self worth and worthiness- you
have to feel worthy of asking for what you want,
and be willing to accept it when it shows up.
Personal power comes from treating yourself well,
and being in alignment across your thoughts and
behaviors. Self sabotage occurs when our thoughts
are going one way, and our behaviors another.
We all can increase our personal power (and mastery)
when we identify what we like, and pursue it. We
believe we deserve to have what we want.
We tolerate the discomfort of setting boundaries
and putting greater structure into our existing
relationships. We understand that there are certain
frameworks we need to be our best, and we work to
consciously create these in every interaction.
We accumulate personal power over time- with every
goal successfully reached, every improvement in
our self confidence and each time we stretch out
of the familiar into some place new.
And, finally, we can all become more powerful.
It starts by believing we’re worthy, defining
what we want and going directly for it. When
these elements are in place, we become virtually
unstoppable.
This month, I invite you to take steps to actively
grow your personal power- define what you want
for this next month, quarter, or year of your
life- and then go directly for it.
I’d love to hear about what you find.

Rachna Recommends:
Power Pause- a 3 step program to help you
with any life problem. I've found it easy
to use, and it gets results. When you take
time to Power Pause, you increase your personal
power because you get more of all that
you want from life.
