Dear Reader,
Over the past few days, I've become really clear on how
difficult it is for me to relax and accept. I notice how
often I push myself to go further, faster, and bigger.
Sometimes my insides don't match up with the outsides,
and I find myself 'pushing against' rather than 'allowing with'.
A good example of this - I was sitting at the car dealership last
week, feeling annoyed and irritated by having to be there. I had about 15 errands waiting to be run, and I found myself getting more annoyed- by the minute - at having to do so many things, and being 'stuck' in the car dealership.
I allowed myself to travel down this path for about 5 minutes,
noticing that I was feeling worse and worse, and getting more
and more annoyed.
I didn't want to feel this way anymore, and I was able to remind myself that one of my greatest desires is to find happiness in whatever the situation or circumstance. The way I look at it is like this - yes, there will be, and are, very serious things that happen in our lives. However, focusing on these, or dwelling on them-especially when we can't change anything- doesn't serve ourselves, or the other people in our lives. We can approach all situations from a place of responsibility, without allowing this responsibility to become heavy and burdensome.
Once I remembered that I really feel better, and make better decisions- when I feel good, I began to shift my focus. I began to think of how nice it would feel to complete all my errands, and to do them easily and without having to wait in long lines. I saw myself moving through my day safely and with a smile on my face. My mood began to lift.
My mind began to think ahead to how lucky I am and how good my life is, and I began to shed all the anger and irritation of the previous
half hour.
Within a few minutes of shifting my focus, the service manager came out to speak to me. She said, 'Your car is totally fine - and it's out front. No charge and we'll see you at your next service. '
This was wonderful news - my car was fine, no charge, AND the whole appointment took 20 minutes- MUCH less than the 2 hours I had mentally set aside.
Since I was feeling better and my car was ready, I buckled up,
tuned to my favorite radio station, and went on my way. The rest of the day went even better than I could have hoped- reminding me, again, that all I have to do is get myself to a good feeling place, accepting whatever is- and allow life to happen. It often unfolds perfectly- when I just let it.
This month, I invite you to practice going to a 'good feeling' place, no matter what happens. Once we realize that we can be happy, no matter what, we've discovered the key to a rich and abundant life.
See you next month.
Rachna
