Rachna's Note
February 2006
Dear Reader,
Happy February! It's great to be with you again, and I hope this
new month is going well for you so far.
Things here continue to go well, though very, very busy. So busy,
in fact, that I've been sick for the past few days and am not
sure I remember what it's like to feel 100%. But hopefully soon.
I was recently quoted in MyBusiness Magazine and have started
publishing articles again, which has been fun. My book has been
somewhat on hold with being sick, but I'm hoping to send it for
editing before the end of this month.
With everything going on in my life, and probably in yours, it
seemed appropriate to focus on tools for combating overwhelm;
the focus of this month's issue.
I hope you enjoy it, and I'll see you next month!
:)

Overwhelmed? Narrow Your Focus.

Ok, so we’re into the 2nd month of 2006, and I have been thinking
about moving out of overwhelm. In my mind, overwhelm is a country
(the land of Overwhelm) and is ruled by King Scatter and Queen
Loss of Focus.
Unfortunately, I’ve been spending a great deal of time in
Overwhelm lately, so much so that they are considering giving me
a life-time visitor’s visa. (Ugh, no thanks!). Anyway, what this
got me thinking about is that when I feel overwhelmed,
it usually means two things: I’ve gotten mentally
scattered and I’ve lost focus.
This is definitely true, lately, as my already busy life has
gotten busier with wedding planning, finishing up my next book,
and staying in touch with my clients, as well as finding time to
see my family and friends. Where I normally am pretty adept at
juggling all these tasks, lately, I find that I start one thing,
put it down, begin another, put it down....and, generally, just
kind of move from task to task and nothing is completed.
I woke up this morning with greater clarity: to get back on
track, I need to stop scattering my energy, and I need to focus
my thoughts and behaviors on getting the next thing done. So,
even though I think I should be writing thank you cards from
my engagement party, my next thing to get done is this newsletter article. Then, from there, I will update my
blogs, have lunch, and then, and only then, move on to thank you
cards.
So far, this strategy is working pretty well. I’d invite you to
try it.
Whenever you’ve journeyed to the Land of Overwhelm, do the
following. Take a deep breath. Take a mental step back to gain
perspective on the whole situation. Decide what is the next thing
to get done. And then work diligently to complete it. Focus, and repeat.
See you next month-
Rachna
