Rachna's Note

May 2004

Dear Reader,

Wow! It seems like I was just writing to you last week, as the year
continues to fly by.

I have some exciting news to share - I was recently selected as a
Contributing Editor to Seventeen Magazine! I love this because
I get to dispense tons of (teen-friendly) advice. If you have the
occasion to skim through this month's issue, and future ones,
you'll see my name on the masthead. It's been a terrific
experience so far.

It also ties in, well, with the theme of this month's issue,
which is seizing opportunities. Do you know that so many
people let excellent opportunities pass them by - simply
because they are too scared or too risk-averse to act
in time?

I decided, recently, that I was going to step out even bigger
and go after any opportunity that sounded even remotely
interesting. What I noticed in doing this was how fast new
opportunities started showing up!

If you're ready to move your life to the next level, start
by seizing all the good opportunities that you can. And
remember, have lots of fun in the process.

See you next month-
Warmly,
Rachna

Seizing Opportunities
(c) 2004. Dr. Rachna D. Jain

This month, I’ve noticed an increase in the number
of opportunities coming my way. In talking with some
of my friends and colleagues this seems to be a
somewhat common theme. People are noticing more
and more options and possibilities for their lives.

As I was noticing the unfolding of these growth
provoking situations (because, really, you can't
take on a new opportunity unless you're willing
to grow), I began to think about the idea of
seizing your opportunities when they arise.

In my experience, part of what separates the
successful people from those who are not as
successful is this: the successful people are
quicker at seizing opportunities. This doesn't
mean that they are impolite, or unpleasant, just
that they don't hesitate to act when a good
opportunity shows up.

In contrast, the less successful person is one
who takes a lot of time to think about the
opportunities before acting on them. Certainly,
we must all consider the consequences of every
opportunity but, too, we sometimes lose
opportunities because we're spending too much
time thinking and not enough time acting.

Sometimes, at least, you can act first and then
figure it out as you go. The more you build your
resilience (see last month’s issue), the better
able you'll be to flow with the possibilities
and seize all good opportunities as they arise.

As spring fever gains an even greater hold, I'd
invite you this month to seize some opportunities
in your own life, business or career. You might be
VERY glad you did.
