Rachna's Note
September 2005
Dear Reader,
You know what's funny? No matter how long I've
been out of school (just about 7 years now),
September always seems like a month of new
energy and new opportunities. Maybe it's that
sense of gearing up for a new academic year
(even though I haven't done this lately) or
maybe it's the slightly cooler days and the crunchy
leaves falling to the ground. Anyway, whatever
it is, this month has been a time of re-orienting
and refocusing after the lazy days of summer.
My presentation at NET-IP (The National Organization
of Young Indian Professionals)- was a smash! I
presented with two other very talented professionals.
The room was packed with upwards of 800 people, all
of whom seemed engaged and interested in our topic.
The energy was phenomenal (I'm still riding the wave
of it!) and we even got a standing ovation at the
end. How fun!
Since flying back, I've been busy with following up
on inquiries, developing some new
products and finishing up my next book. (See what
I mean about getting reoriented and refocused?)
Anyway, this month's newsletter issue focuses on
creating space for the new (appropriate, no?)
I hope you enjoy this issue and I'll "see"
you next month! (Which happens to be my birthday
month, so watch for a special surprise for all
you fantastic subscribers!)
Warmly,
Rachna

Creating Space for the New

Well, it’s the start of a new school year and a new
season. It’s time to get back to a more structured
working schedule, and to finalize your goals and
plans for the rest of the year.
Over this past month, I’ve been consciously considering
the idea of creating space for the new. You know that
old saying, “Nature abhors a vacuum?”- well, I’ve
had proof- first hand- that this is absolutely true.
It’s very easy to keep living our lives how we’ve
always done- we know how to do this, we’re comfortable,
and it doesn’t require much extra thought or effort.
Sometimes, though, what we gain in routine or comfort,
we trade off in never creating space for the new.
The way I think of it, we each must say “goodbye”
to something every so often so we can create the
space to receive something new. Change, like life,
happens in cycles- and there is a continuing push
for renewal and newness- whether we’re ready or not.
I saw this first hand in my life this month, as I
decided it was time to say goodbye to some long-held
beliefs and long-existing obligations. These goodbyes
were overdue, but it was still difficult to let go.
What I found, though, was that soon after shifting
my beliefs, and of letting go of old obligations,
all kinds of great new opportunities started flowing
in- proving, once again (I’m sometimes a slow learner)
that the Universe is extremely abundant.
So, for you, I’d ask this: Is there any place in your
life that you feel could use some growth? Some place
where you’ve been holding onto old beliefs and old
obligations which are keeping you from creating something new?
If so, the time to take action is now. Create space
for the new—and rejoice at the speed with which you
receive it.
