Rachna's Note
January 2006
Dear Reader,
Happy New Year! It's wonderful to be with you again, and I hope
2006 is shaping up fantastically for you so far.
Things on this end are going well. Getting a bit hectic,
actually, but I always tell myself that this is probably better
than having nothing to do. :)
A lot of fun thing have been happening since we last connected.
I've gotten a lot of good feedback on my quotes in the January
issue of Marie Claire and in the January issue of Baltimore
Magazine. I've been working steadily on my new book, and should
be finished writing the whole thing by the end of this month.
(I'll be offering a pre-publication discount, so stay tuned!)
Wedding-wise, we're at the point of setting up our registry, and
picking out our first dance song. A lot of details!!
Anyway, in light of how much is going on, it seems appropriate to
focus on change management; the topic of this month's issue.
I hope you enjoy it, and I'll see you next month!
:)

I've been thinking a lot this month about the saying "the only
constant is change". What I take this to mean is that change is
always occurring- always part of our lives- and, in fact, is a
main facet of living.
I was reminded of this idea because of the New Year. As is my
habit, I usually take an hour or two at the end of a year to
review how that year went, and I take another hour or so to plan
how I want the next year to go.
In completing my list for 2005/2006, I was struck by one
recurring theme- how much my life and business have changed over
the past 12 months. Personally, as you know, I moved from dating
to being engaged, with all the adjustments this kind of big
change demands. I made a commitment to greater physical fitness,
and better stress management. I practiced turning down requests
(and stuck to this!) Professionally, I clarified my business
foci in greater detail, promoted my books more effectively, and
almost completed my next book (due out in a few months, stay
tuned!). I also repositioned my business, developed more
presentations, and had the opportunity to meet more people. My
expert status continued to grow, as I was regularly contacted by
major magazines and newspapers seeking comment on various issues.
At the same time, I also reconnected with why I like consulting
with others, and I actively sought out new professional and
collegial relationships. I began to understand, better, the value
of outsourcing certain tasks and how getting help can make the
work finish faster.
How does this relate to you? If you haven't yet done so, do take
some time to think about what changed for you in 2005 and what
you'd like to create in 2006. Be sure to appreciate your
accomplishments from last year as you set goals big enough to be
worth reaching this year.
And, too, remember, "life is what happens when you're busy making
other plans"- be sure your goals leave room for life to change.
If you have some big changes you'd like to make this year, I
invite you to share them with me. I'd love to know what we can
anticipate from you in 2006!
I'd like to publish your responses in the next few newsletter
issues, so please do write me, okay?
See you next month-
Rachna
